Nexus Intellect Research NGO is proud to announce that we have been selected as the lead entity to implement the Pathways2Resilience project in the Ararat community of Armenia. This week marks the beginning of an 18-month journey for 40 regions and communities, including Ararat, as they embark on a transformative climate adaptation program. These regions, representing a combined population of over 53 million, will work collaboratively to tackle challenges ranging from droughts to wildfires.

Chosen from a competitive pool of 164 applicants, the selected communities will work with project partners to develop comprehensive climate resilience strategies, action plans, and investment plans. The Pathways2Resilience initiative aims to foster collective ambition and widen efforts toward effective climate adaptation, ensuring that all participating regions are equipped to face emerging climate hazards.

Pathways2Resilience offers step-by-step technical guidance using its transformational adaptation framework, the Regional Resilience Journey. This journey will include capacity-building activities, knowledge-sharing opportunities, and access to a comprehensive climate resilience toolbox. Through these tools, Ararat and other regions will develop concrete and practical solutions to adapt to changing climate conditions.

As emphasized by Laura Pando Martínez, Learning Orchestrator for Climate Resilient Regions at EIT Climate-KIC and project coordinator for Pathways2Resilience:““Achieving a just transition to climate resilience will require a transformation that goes beyond performing technical tasks to changing mindsets and attitudes… We can achieve thriving communities while adapting to a changing climate through the power of collaboration, ingenuity, and shared learning””

The project is supported by 21 million euros in cascade funding, distributed through two public calls for applications, with the second call expected in June 2025. This significant funding will bolster local efforts in communities like Ararat, helping build more resilient and thriving environments.

The Pathways2Resilience initiative aims to elevate the ambition and capability of regional public administrations. This first cohort will set the stage for mobilizing 100 regions and communities towards transformative climate adaptation. The official Kick-Off Meeting (KoM) will take place in mid-October in The Hague, bringing together representatives from the 40 selected regions to connect, learn, and exchange knowledge regarding each community’s climate challenges.
